Topic – Everything I wanted to know about the PMP/PMBOK but was afraid to ask (or actually didn’t know who to ask!)

Without a doubt, one of the most popular and sought after programs for the PMI-LA chapter is the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification exam preparation classes.  This mirrors the popularity of the PMP certification as it is one of the most popular in the world with the most recent statistics from PMI indicating that there are over 550,000 PMP certified project managers in the world.  In addition, there are over 4 million copies of the “Guide To The Project Management Body Of Knowledge” (PMBOK) in circulation for all editions.

Due to this popularity, there is a pleathora of PMP prep providers as well as a mountain information (and mis-information) about the PMP, it’s relation to the PMBOK, how to study for the exam, what the PMBOK actually is, etc.  Come to this session to be properly informed about this very important, if not most important and valuable certification for project managers in the US and many parts of the world and get answers to some of the most common questions such as:

  • What’s the status and trend going forward for the PMP certification?
  • What the heck is the PMBOK?  Is it a methodology, a process framework, a project management dictionary and lexicon?  I’ve heard it referrred to in all these various manners and I’m confused!
  • What’s the best approach for studying for the exam?  What are the changes to the recent 5th edition and the impacts?
  • I heard this version is the first to formally acknowledge “Agile” project management?  What are the integration points and how is it similar to and different from the new PMI-ACP (Agile Certified Practitioner) exam?
  • What other certification are out there that compete with the PMP, such as Prince2, the recent global and ratified ISO 21500 standard for project management and others I’m not aware of?

So come to this meeting to get these questions you were always wondering about but were afraid to ask or just didn’t know who and where to ask answered.  This meeting is suitable for those new to the PMP and contemplating getting it as well as those old hats who are already certified but want to get up to speed with the recent changes and/or would like a refresher.
